Who runs this site

This website is operated by Alexander Akhiezer, a registered patent attorney based in Greater Boston, Massachusetts (“I” or “me”). I am responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

What I collect

• Usage data from Google Analytics. Pages you view, how long you stay, the site that referred you, your approximate location (city and country), and your device, browser and operating system. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Google signals and advertising features are turned off.
• Server logs. My hosting provider records technical details of each request, such as IP address, browser type and date and time, to keep the site secure and running.
• Messages you send me. If you contact me, for example through LinkedIn, I receive the information you choose to share.

The site has no user accounts, takes no payments and has no forms that collect personal information.

Please do not send confidential information

Contacting me does not create an attorney-client relationship. Please do not send confidential details about an invention until we have agreed in writing to work together. Sharing an invention publicly or with others can affect your ability to patent it.

How I use information

• To understand which articles and pages are useful and improve the site
• To keep the site secure and working
• To reply to messages you send me

I do not sell personal information, and I do not share it for targeted advertising.

Cookies

Google Analytics uses cookies. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent before analytics cookies are used. Anyone can change their choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page. Details are in the Cookie Policy.

Who receives information

• Google, which provides Google Analytics and processes usage data on my behalf
• Network Solutions, which hosts the website and keeps server logs
• LinkedIn, if you follow a link to it or message me there; its own privacy policy then applies

I may also disclose information if required by law.

How long information is kept

Google Analytics keeps event-level data for 2 months and user-level data for 14 months. After that, only aggregated reports remain. Server logs are kept according to the hosting provider’s schedule. Messages are kept as long as needed to respond and for my records.

International transfers

Google may process usage data in the United States. Google participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions.

Your choices and rights

• Reject or withdraw consent to analytics cookies through “Cookie settings”
• Block or delete cookies in your browser settings
• Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. I rely on your consent for analytics cookies and on legitimate interests for security logs and for replying to messages.

If you are in California or another U.S. state with a privacy law, you may have the right to know what personal information is collected and to ask for it to be deleted. I do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it.

Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends this signal and you have not made a different choice, the site treats it as a request to turn off analytics cookies.

Security

The site is served only over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and access to its administration is limited. No method of sending or storing information over the internet is completely secure, so please do not send sensitive information through public channels.

Children

This site is meant for businesses and professionals and is not directed to children under 16.
